Chey Blake is a savvy business affairs attorney and strategist with over 20 years of diverse media, intellectual property and entertainment law experience. She has extensive experience structuring and negotiating agreements in all areas of the entertainment industry, including consumer products and brand merchandising, licensing and distribution, sponsorship, publishing, and film and television production and distribution. In an industry where media is changing at a breathtaking pace, she is skilled at artfully balancing legal and business risks against practical business and commercial needs.

Chey is the founder and principal of CHEYBLAKELAWpc, a New York based entertainment and intellectual property law firm with expertise and broad experience in areas ranging from the core entertainment areas of television, film, publishing, trademarks, branding, and merchandise licensing and distribution, to cutting edge developments in branded entertainment, endorsements and multi-platform media distribution. She is dedicated to providing clients with innovative approaches and smart solutions based on a comprehensive industry perspective, personalized attention to organizational objectives, and an understanding of emerging developments in law and business. From serving as off-site general counsel for developing businesses, to providing transaction-specific legal representation and expertise, she works in partnership with clients to craft deals from inception to fruition and to provide risk-management, transaction strategy and policy development counsel in matters relating to product, content and brand extension and exploitation across varying media formats and consumer content channels.

Prior to launching her private practice, Chey was corporate counsel at A+E Networks from 2000-2014, overseeing legal and business affairs for its Home Entertainment & Consumer Products division, in charge of deals relating to the global expansion of the A&E, History, Lifetime, FYI and Crime & Investigation network brands in over 150 countries. She managed all legal matters relating to digital and home video production, acquisition, manufacture and distribution, e-commerce, education media, merchandise and trademark licensing, book publishing, soundtrack and ancillary exploitations of the company’s content, trademarks and other intellectual property assets.

Chey has been recognized by UPTOWN Magazine as one of New York’s “Top Lawyers,” and has spoken as a panelist on a variety of topics including “The Role of Race and Gender at the Intersection of Law, Business and Human Rights,” “Celebrity Rights of Publicity & Content Ownership” and “The Future of Sports on TV.” She also taught entertainment law as an Adjunct Professor at NYU’s School of Professional Studies, and provides corporate training seminars on best practices for the use and preservation of intellectual property assets.
Before joining A+E Networks, Chey practiced entertainment law as an associate at Franklin, Weinrib, Rudell & Vassallo from 1994-2000. She began her career as a labor and employment attorney with Mack, Williams, Haygood & McLean in Atlanta, Georgia.

Chey is a member of both the New York State Bar and the State Bar of Georgia, and received her B.A. from of Northwestern University, and her J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School.
